With only 48 hours left before a crucial World Cup qualifier between Nigeria and Algeria (as at Thursday), Riyad Mahrez has sent a message to his Leicester City teammate Ahmed Musa and his Super Eagles colleagues that they will secure maximum points in Uyo.
The current best player in the English Premier League is expected to be one of the first names on Georges Leekens’s teamsheet on Saturday, going by his form for club and country.
“We will do everything necessary to get this qualification and it will require a win against Nigeria we are determined more than ever to return home with the victory, ” Mahrez posted on Facebook.
“Our team is made up of warriors and brothers and we will prove it on the field to make all people of Algeria proud.” This season, Mahrez has scored 4 goals (3 assists) in 16 appearances across all competitions for the Foxes.
Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has suggested that it was wrong for Chelsea coach Antonio Conte to keep Nigeria captain, John Obi Mikel in the cooler following his decision to play for the Nigerian U-23 team at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Rohr who was speaking in Uyo yesterday disclosed that Mikel was in top form, but was only being ignored by Conte because of his decision to travel to Rio.
“I cannot punish a player who loves his country and shows that he loves the Green jersey.
