Patriot’s Day trailer: Mark Wahlberg leads drama about 2013 Boston bombing

Mark Wahlberg, reuniting with Berg for the thrid time after Lone Survivor and the recent Deepwater Horizon, leads an impressive cast.

The first trailer for Patriot’s Day, director Peter Berg’s drama about the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and the subsequent manhunt, is out and it looks great.

Mark Wahlberg, reuniting with Berg for the thrid time after Lone Survivor and the recent Deepwater Horizon, leads an impressive cast which also includes Michelle Monaghan, JK Simmons, Kevin Bacon and John Goodman.

The trailer is very minimalist, favouring mood and tone instead of dialogue and action. There’s a little bit about the events preceding the bombing and a hint of what happened after.

Another reason we’re excited about this film is that it’s being scored by the Oscar-winning duo Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. They don’t work in films too often (they’ve scored the last three David Fincher movies, The Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Gone Girl), so something about the material must have attracted them.

Patriot’s Day looks like a solid crowd-pleasing drama with strong performances and an inspirational story at its centre. Look for it to arrive in theatres on December 21.
